Oxford surrendered their Home Counties Premier League Division 1 championship - but only after rain denied them certain victory on Saturday.

Jason Harrison's men had dismissed Radlett for 94, thanks to a fantastic nine-wicket haul from Jack Brooks and were cruising to victory at 17-0 when the weather intervened. No further play was possible.

A win would have seen them retain their crown.

Instead, the title went down the M40 to Harrison's previous club High Wycombe, who were hanging for a draw in their rain-shortened match against Welwyn Garden City.

Even if they had lost, Wycombe were have still become champions, courtesy of their success over Oxford in last week's penultimate game.

After a delayed start, Oxford put Radlett in to bat in a match reduced to 86 overs.

The visitors lost their first wicket in the fifth over when Kabir Toor was caught behind off Brooks, who took the first four wickets by then trapping Felix Walker lbw, having Tom Jenkins caught behind and then bowling Shane Burger.

The fifth wicket fell to Stuart Hole, who bowled Hadyn Smith After 21 overs, Radlett were 56-8. The only resistance came from Gareth Berg before he became the ninth wicket to fall when he was bowled by Brooks for 38 from 41 balls.

They were eventually dismissed for 94 in 30.1 overs, Brooks finishing with the amazing figures of 9-39 from 15.1overs.

At the other end, Hole was unlucky to have some catches put down off his bowling.

In reply, Oxford openers Adam Cook and Harrison added 17 in 5.1 overs before rain bought an end to proceedings at 4.02pm and meant they had to settle fourth place instead of first.

I was sight seeing in Cowley on Saturday and heard there was a beast about to bowl, so I popped down to Roman Way, Romanshire and I believe we have unearthed a gem in the headband! I'm sending my captain Sourav to watch him bowl today!

I have been informed he did not although we were dissapointed for him "Big Spinner who gets side on" He said he was like most of the others in awe (an emotion variously combining dread, veneration, and wonder that is inspired by authority or by the sacred or sublime) of the young boy in the headband.

Maybe best he rested with a hectic winter in front of him, his games more suited for the sub-continent anyway. I heard there was a scary moment with a vortex in the warm up? Can someone confirm this?

Not seen the video footage yet of the high and low lights of the game. I will comment then, normally pretty safe this chap in most areas. Not sure if the pressures of the sub continent will suit him. Time will tell.

Good to see the chap with the head band taking the wickets again. But I also notice in the mail the LH opening bat not sure of his name always performs so consistently but rarely gets a mention well done to him to.

Try Kidlington. I hear that they have some very efficient administrators up there. They will ensure that you have no 'On the field' problems. :-)

This Thomas chap, excellant breeding and outstanding bank account, will surely get a sniff at the big time in 09 after dominating in the stiffs. Fez club membership could take its toll over the winter though...

Vern/Phil

Please good you tell me more about this Thomas chap? I was thinking of going to Rowant to watch him bat but was told he was in the field! I here he is a opening bat by trade and bats down the order these days, I could do with south paw in the middle order finishing the innings for me!

But I hear he could come at a serious prize?

Negotiations have reached a advanced stage with the Coronal.

Did not mean this Thomas fellow. But have heard he has been the cornerstone of the Oxford II this season. But he is another I am know does not blow his own trumpet. I think the guy I am refeering to, surmane is Crook i think. Good player strong in the V beteween mid on and Square Leg....

The big guns are in negotitian with him. The Colonel has ben supportive reminding us he is afine LH Over at the death bowler... But does like fielding in the rain with no prospect of a bat... he is worth the price.

The other LH you refer to is called Crock. Hope to get him to the sub continent if he plays the V like you say.

But what coup to get the leftys and the boy with the headband

Ah I’ve heard this T Fox is also quite a player! Offers with ball as well! From a PR point of view he would also be quite a investment, Bollywood are queuing up for his services!

Also there's a lad at Banbury that bats and keeps a bit.

Sounds like the Oxford boys had fun this season and some good Banter. Watched some games this season in HCPL the LH bat opener is Alan Cook but the One day specialist not mentioned today is Joe Potter LH bat and medium quick spinner. Worth a look in any IPL side. The young lad Crozley huge hitter but RH bat.

As a former 2nd XI lower order batter and slow right arm, I would like to congratulate Oxford on another excellent season. Also, whilst I have your ear, I would like to announce my leaving of the county altogether. Myself and my long term partner, Steve, have decided that with all my commitments to disability go-carting we would move to it's HQ on the Island of Lesbos. I would like to thank all of you chaps at Oxford cc for firstly, letting me be naked near you in the changing room and secondly for your messages of kindness on my "coming out". A final huge thank you to Adam Leach for helping me to believe that having a disability is OK. Thank you all.
