Innocent till proven guilty .... your joking the Oxford Mail , like all press are more than happy to name men accused of rape before being found guilty or innocent, this is the most easiest claim any female can make against a man, knowing they will arrested , named in the press and they dont even need evidence, rape cases have gone to court soley based on one persons word against another.

it is also a sad fact that MOST women who make up the allegation will never be charged or details held on the police computer however any man arrested and questioned over an allegation will have his fingerprints photo and DNA taken by the police, held on their computer system and the arrest listed on their police record even if they are innocent.

Well I guess that all depends as to whether or not she was indeed crying wolf or just to freightened to proceed,as has been the case in the past with others victims of rape.

I think things like this should not be available to the press until a conviction has been made, mud sticks and once a person has been accused of this sort of thing it doesn't matter if proven innoccent the sigma will always be there.

While I'm not sure that all travelers thieve, my objection is that they create and leave behind them the most dreadful mess which the local community has to pay to clean up. Old cars, rubbish and worst of all - their ****. If I was being prosecuted for inciting racial hatred - I would personally question whether 'travellers' belong to any race or ethnic group in the first place. I think that the only common factor that links these travellers is that of financial expediency - if you have no fixed abode then you don't need to pay tax, national insurance, road tax, vehicle insurance or council tax. You can run a business without premises, leave your rubbish for someone else to pay to collect and move on easily to avoid creditors and dissatisfied customers when the tarmac cracks away from the drive.

One of the prejudices we are urged to discard is that so-called ‘travellers’ are thieving and squalid. Certainly, a camp for them at Tintinhull in Somerset seemed to show that they could be responsible and civilised citizens. A number had lived there happily for 20 years and the site received a £500,000 renovation grant from the Office of Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott. New showers, lavatories, fences and security systems were installed at the site, which featured eight pitches for caravans. Then along came a group of up to 100 Irish travellers, who arrived overnight and destroyed everything in a spree of theft and vandalism. They made off with electrical fittings, heating equipment, alarm covers and wooden fence panels, leaving behind row after row of concrete supports. They illegally tapped into electricity supplies, racking up hundreds of pounds worth of bills. Then they wonder why they have a reputation!

In a new twist, travellers have now started buying land across the country and starting sites without planning permission. Having established the site they then apply for retrospective planning permission which the council naturally refuses. But because of how the planning laws work in the UK, the travellers can run the appeals system for years and also try the Human Rights route. In a recent case a Judge refused to remove travelers from an illegal site on the grounds that it would cause them 'hardship.and suffering'. The local residents ask what about their hardship and suffering? They are subject to threats and intimidation and house prices in the area have plummeted 40%. A spin off of this situation is that now unscrupulous landowners are blackmailing villagers to buy plots of land at hugely inflated prices otherwise they will sell them to travellers.

Meanwhile of course our politically correct government say they can do nothing - the villagers must live with all this mess on their doorsteps. But when it comes to a mess on the government's doorstep then things suddenly can be done. Peter Hain has announced a change in the law so they can move the demonstration against the war in Iraq from the ground outside Parliament. 'It is distressing and upsets many people' he declared 'we must be allowed to go about our business free from harassment'. If just seeing the demonstration is harassment to you, what about all the villagers suffering REAL harassment by being burgled and threatened by travellers Peter? Why not change the law to help them go about their lawful business as well?

The real issue again is that of "Political Correctness". No Judge or Politician dare tackle the real problem of travellers for fear of bad publicity when the PC vociferous minority start bleating. As for discriminating behaviour, it is us vast majority that are being discriminated against. If I threw rubbish down outside my house or **** in the garden, I would soon have the local council, public health and police on my back. If I built a house without planning permission they would soon knock it down. If I am a traveller - they won't dare.

Well over half a million illegal invaders who have `become embedded in British society’ will be given an effective secret amnesty by the government, according to a Sunday newspaper.

The News of the World claimed that it had uncovered evidence showing that Home Office officials had been instructed to abandon any efforts to track them down or kick them out of the country.

Instead the huge number, equivalent to a city the size of Sheffield, will be allowed to settle here and work legally.

The decision has been taken because just 60 Immigration Service officials are reviewing a massive backlog of 660,000 applications for asylum.

Around 60,000 are believed to have already been deported, decided to leave, have died - or are awaiting deportation. But, with some applications dating back a decade, ministers have decided it is easier to let the rest stay.

Those who can be contacted will be sent a letter saying they will not be removed - but they will be told that if they leave Britain they cannot come back.

Ministers deny that the “legacy case review” is an amnesty. One said: “If they leave the country they won’t be allowed back in. However, many are now so well embedded in the community it would be a long, drawn-out process to get rid of them.”

But the decision is likely to encourage hundreds of thousands more migrants to travel to Britain, knowing they are unlikely to be removed .

Sir Andrew Green, Chairman of Migration Watch UK, said: “More immigrants settling in Britain is the last thing we need.

“Our population is already increasing by a third of a million every year, mainly due to immigration. We will have to build the equivalent of the city of Birmingham every three years just to cope.”

Hmmm.... it appears that these comments have gone a lot off topic.

This teenager may have been raped, but then again, she may not have been. I think its down to the police to carry out their investigation. The comments regarding the 'rapists name' as far as I can see from this site the guy has not been named. Maybe I am wrong in which case I will apologise.

It appears to me that alot of stereotyping is going on here. I agree that some of the gypsies are very dishonest and are out to create problems and acts of crime, what some of you fail to realise if that all the crime is not down to this 'group / society' of people. Oh and secondly, there are a lot of diffences between these groups of people. Too quote..."great the fairs,coming too oxford." The people who manage / work on these fairs are actually known as 'Showman' They actually work hard for a living, a lot of these live in mobile homes during the times they are not working. From my experience..... I have seen that these sites are kept clean, reason being.... Generations of people have been living there for decades.

Moving on from that. The news of the world is a comic, surely this is a news paper that cannot be taken seriously. Where the cover story "I slept with a footballer" takes priority over the state of the economy or the genocides in Rwanda.

Why are men named in the paper when charged with rape surely this should not be done until they have been proved guilty? otherwise they could put an innocent mans name in the paper.
