Patto salutes his battlers!

Oxford United came from behind to win for the first time in a year at Northwich Victoria on Tuesday night.

And boss Darren Patterson saluted his players' character as they hit back for a priceless 2-1 victory.

"This was a massive win for us," Patterson said afterwards. "We showed real character again, and we've now had two terrific results.

"The stats show that we came back from a goal down only once last year, and after Saturday at Ebbsfleet we've done it twice, so we've bettered that already.

"We've played here at Northwich twice before and it's not been a happy hunting ground, with injuries, sendings-off and defeats.

"We fell behind to a wonder goal. I've got to give Darryn Stamp credit - it was a magnificent strike.

"But the reaction was what we wanted. We've shown that we've got desire and character and I'm very pleased for the boys. There's a lot that's gone against them, but I've got a very honest bunch."

James Constable struck his second brace of the season - his first came in the 6-3 home win against Eastbourne - and they were real striker's goals, as he came alive inside the box when others were less awake.

"He's a goalscorer, simple as that," Patterson added. "The four goals he's scored have all been predatory goals.

"Jamie Guy got another 70 minutes under his belt, so we're pleased with that. Sometimes we think he tries too hard, but he's getting there.

"And the new lad (defender Karleigh Osborne) did well. If he keeps it simple, he's a very effective player."

It was the first time United had managed to keep 11 players on the pitch in an away game this season, while the last time they had come from behind to win was at Burton Albion at the start of 2007-8.

Constable said: "It was nice to get two more goals, and the winner. We showed good character after going one down.

"It's a nice feeling to get two goals after not getting on the scoresheet for a while. It's just massive that we prepare right for Saturday's home game against Kettering now."

Good performance lets hope it is the start of something. I thought the young lad at the back made quite a difference got in the way of most things and won every header, when his month loan ends lets see if we can keep him and they can have Foster.
Jamie Guy tho didn't think he looked very good, if he is our prolific goalscorer god help us.

No matter what has happened in earlier games, last night's performance was impressive. It wasn't particularly pretty but it was effective and just about everyone battled hard and had a real desire to win. Great to see that from players.
We of course need to carry this forward into Saturday but last night was a real confidence booster.
I understand Kettering are bringing a good number so it should make for a decent atmosphere - if the we can turn out in good numbers ourselves.

Good result.

When did they change the rules that a rugby tackle in the box was no longer a red card?

I take it you didn't go to any of the pre-season games, or if you did you have a poor memory? Jamie Guy looked a fantastic goalscorer, and I'm sure when he's back to full match fitness you will start to see the goals fly in.

Constable in pre-season, on the other hand, looked like a hard worker, but not much else. Now we see him for the goalscorer he actually is.

If we get both of them firing on all cylinders, Trainer on top form in midfield, and Turley barking orders from the back we could put a good run together I think.

Our best players need to stay fit however, and that's something we seem to have struggled to achieve for a while.

When will people open their eyes and realise pre season does not matter! Most of the players looked good pre season and look what has happened to them.

When Jamie Guy gets anywhere near the box in competitive games he doesn't seem to have a clue what to do as evident in last nights game. One on one with the keeper has it on his right foot and then he stops and puts it on his left foot when he has no left foot. Good signs of a prolific scorer that is!

I do agree with what you say about Trainer underated player in my eyes and much more attacking minded than the 3 we are playing at the mo so could do with him asap.

Three points totally welcome especially in a relegation battle, lets be a bit cautious Northwich Victoria had lost 4 drawn 2 and have the worst defensive record in the division, sadly “U.s” fans have seen too many false dawns.

Its now down to the manager and the team to show their true class by continuing the winning run, we need to average two points a game to be up there challenging for at least a top six place, nothing else is acceptable, otherwise last nights match could well have been a relegation battle.

Good to see James Constable getting a brace, no reason why he should not go on to double figures, and if Guy gets back on pre-season form then there is light at the end of the tunnel and we could, just conceivable, claw our way up the table.

But a hard won point against Woking, who have lost all their previous matches, and a win at Northwich Victoria is not promotion form.

You either didn't go to the same game or just easily pleased. Constable was excellent, Guy was ok at best.

Won every header I think your getting confused Guy just jumps in the air not particulary challenging for the ball thats it, Constable won every header it was certainly not Guy.

Also what is the point in beating players but not being able to shoot! We already have Yemi who can beat players but passes to the opposing keeper we certainly do not need another player like that. Did you see his penalty it was awful no power and right at the keeper.

If he is the man we are relying on to get bulk of our goals then we will be hugely disapointed, luckily Constable knows where the goal is. Guy in his career has played around 50 games and scored 5! Not good but I suppose that is prolific for us!

I really think your getting mixed up with players there. I would be happy if he is scoring from 5 yards but sadly I can't really see him scoring much from that range either. Constable looks a very good player tho!

We WON. The real test comes Saturday, not for the players but the fans.
When you raed these reactions it is little wonder the club is struggling to get fans back into the ground. Yes WOKING WAS POOR, but we did not lose, apart from Barrow we have been incontention in all the other games.
On Saturday we (the fans) should get behind the team for 90 minutes and give ALL the players our total support, rather than trying to destroy them.
When fit Jamie Guy will score goals and we will move up the league on the strength of them. The league is wide open look at Torquay and Stevenage 1 & 2 Favourites before a ball was kicked yet both below us. How many goals has Matt Green scored in the league?
Kettering are unbeaten, so we need to give it 100% and I am sure the players will respond.

The problem with most of men these days is they're pc cowards. Just have a look at our city, it resembles a third world dump. What does it matter whether women go to matches or not, what does matter is the 11 guys in yellow shirts applying themselves like they did last night time and time again. Guy tried but didnt win much, why did he take the penalty if he's not fit? Constable looks to be improving and i think the 2 of them should be given a run together because things happen when they play together, the loanee Osborne looks half decent, not beaten all night and looks as if he can play a bit too, cant finish without a word about Ben Hinchcliffe, dumped after the abyssmal TEAM display at Barrow but showed he is a good one last night, dealt comfortably with everything and only beaten by a goal we would have been delighted to see a guy in yellow score, feet on the ground time tho as we have witnessed a few false dawns and need to get consistency. Great battling performance tho, well done!!!!
