A worker at Witney's Marriotts Close development is fighting for his life after a serious on-site accident.

The town centre came to a halt this morning as an air ambulance helicopter circled to find a safe place to land and take the 28-year-old man to hospital.

Police have not released details about the incident but it is understood the man was operating a cherry picker vehicle on the site and fell among some steel girders.

Emergency services were called to the Marriotts Close site at 8.55am. The man had life threatening injuries and an air ambulance was called.

It eventually came down on the mini-roundabout junction between High Street and Welch Way.

Traffic and pedestrians also came to a halt behind police tape in High Street, blocking the town centre, until the helicopter sped off at around 9.45am.

Officers from the Health and Safety Executive were immediately called to investigate the scene and work on site was cancelled for the rest of the day.

I do hope that this gentleman is ok?
My boyfriend works on a building site and i worry so much about him because 'Workman' are at risk of accidents in the workplace to a high percentace.

My thoughts go out to him....

My thoughts are prayers are with the guy involved and his family.

My partner also works in the building trade and it really hit home the dangers these men face on a daily basis.

I was unlucky enough to be coming out of a shop in town when they bought the chap up to the air ambulance and I was digusted with the gentleman stood filming all of the "action" and I am even more disgusted to see his footage on the local television news!

Why were you disgusted by a news camera man doing his job?

Watched the horrific incident, from our offices, just as the the emergency services arrived on the scene. The poor guy looked in a pretty bad way, though both the firemen & paramedics did a fantastic job, it was quite humbling to see them working together so pro fessionaly to give the guy a chance of surviving.

Because there was no need for him to film the emergency services carrying out their jobs, the poor man was obviously very ill, does he not derserve some dignity and privicy?

Image it was one of your loved ones layed there, half undressed, fighting for their life and some disrespectful person filming everything! How would you feel??

Fingers crossed for the young man and a big well done to all of the emergency services involved

Chantelle - don't you watch the news? If people didn't film such events there'd be very little news, surely you've seen how much of it is car crashes, murders, people made homeless by earthquakes, more recently people in Georgia made homeless by the Russians? Are you telling us you feel the same way about that? Or do you watch it without realising it is "some disrespectful person" filming it?

I do hope the young man recovers and my thoughts are with him and his family

Its not the camera crews that should be banned it's the people taking personal photes that should be banned, i hope the young man is ok, my partner ... does not work on the building site but was at the scene as one of the ambulance crew and saw first hand what had happened, i am in no rush to see what he saw today and the trauma that this leaves people in following an incident like this.

So it is OK for you to comment on this story on this site but not for another news media to film it for television ! Mmmm hypocrisy alive and well in Witney.

You obviously dont understand that I am saying that it is disrespectful for anyone to be filming someone in such a way. Anyone with any commonsense would have simply filmed the helicopter taking off and such, not the actual man.

What is wrong with you people???

I understand how the world works, I am not a child but do you not think that there is a good chance of this poor mans family may see this and what effect it may have on them.

No more disrespectful than people using this board to comment on the accident without knowing the circumstances.

Best of luck and prayers to the young man involved.

Once again our emergency services showing what a fantastic job they do. I'm sure the victim's chances have been hugely enhanced by the actions of our Firefighters and Paramedics. I should also imagine that someone on site would have been offering first aid immediatley, Health and Saftey controls make these accidents a very rare occurance so they always come as a shock.

Media were in town filming David Cameron as i understand so it's no suprise that there was Video footage and Photo's from what was otherwise a fairly quiet Oxfordshire Day.

I completley agree with points raised with regard to Dignity but with hundreds of people stood watching and most of them with a Camera Phone, pictures are always going to be taken!! If the media hadn't been there, we would have probably watched the news with grainy mobile phone pics and video's.

Once again, Best of luck and wishes to the injured man.

As a member of the Development team, I am very sad to hear of the death of one of our construction workers, and my sympathy goes out to his family, and his colleagues who I know will be devastated.
I am also sickened by some of the comments on this forum. You should be ashamed of yourselves. This is neither the time nor the place for racial hatred and I hope they are deleted before too many people read them.
