Plans for Tesco to extend its Pingle Drive store in Bicester were last night refused by planning officers at Cherwell District Council.

A decision on whether the supermarket giant could expand its flagship store next to Bicester Village was refused by the council's planning committee.

Proposals for the 17-year-old store included plans to close its Metro outlet in Sheep Street and add 1.90 sq m of floor space to its flagship site.

The supermarket giant also wanted permission to build a double-decker car park to hold 548 cars - and revamp the petrol station.

I suppose you would prefer a Harrods food store instead. Perhaps you'd all be happy if the store closed for good. Face facts, Bicester is a growing town. More people shop now than they did 17 years ago. And the store is out of town so roadworks shouldn't affect it. Tesco was only trying to improve things for everyone.

Still got the same venom for Asda, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Aldi, Co-op, Iceland and Lidl have we? Abingdon town centre has struggled because of bad management due to the local council. Many other towns (Newbury, Reading) have large Tesco's and the town centre still thrives. Time for you and the anti-Tesco lobby to find something else to moan about.

i hope you all know that tesco paid for the new roundabout to help the traffic.
then Bicester village built more shops and made even more traffic.
Since you all like to voice your opinions so much I hope you all will attend the customer question time at the littlebury in the next couple of weeks.
