Jamie crowned Mr Leys
 |
| Jamie Brackett |
Jamie Brackett cannot wait to get his hands on you.
The romantic 30-year-old has just been named Mr Leys - and is officially the most eligible bachelor on his estate.
Ambitious Jamie won the title earlier this week, and hopes his new position will get him more work as a sports masseur.
But he also plans to act as a role model by campaigning for better children's facilities on the estate he has lived on all his life.
Jamie, from Nunnery Close, won the Mr Leys competition after his friends encouraged him to enter the contest to find the estate's alpha male.
An all-female panel of judges gave him top marks for looks and personality after he handed in a photo of himself cradling his son Jodi on holiday.
Jamie said: "I was amazed to win - though it was a bit of a shock.
"I have been walking through the estate and people have been shouting 'Mr Leys' at me.
"I feel absolutely brilliant. It's an honour to represent the estate."
Sports-mad Jamie is a keen footballer, playing in midfield, who once had trials at Oxford United.
He still plays football when he can, but for the past nine months has been kept busy training as a massage therapist at Oxford & Cherwell Valley College.
When he is not studying, he reads, travels and spends weekends with his son, who is two months away from his second birthday.
Jamie, one of the estate's many Bracketts, said he wanted to use his position to demonstrate good fatherly qualities - like patience.
He said he had matured since his days as a teenage tearaway, and had worked as a painter and decorator before deciding he wanted to study physiology at the college.
Jamie said: "I hope to be a role model. To get through my anatomy and physiology exam has been so hard for me.
"I feel really proud of what I have done.
"I just want to let people know that whatever goal you've got, you can actually do it."
Jamie won a year's membership at the Ozone Health and Fitness gym, in Grenoble Road; a meal for two at the Star of Asia restaurant, in Cowley Road; four Vue cinema tickets; and an Argos shopping voucher for coming out on top in the hotly-contested competition, which was organised by Leys News.
He said he wanted to use the title to campaign for a better future for young people on the estate, by giving them more things to do, and wants to act as an ambassador for Blackbird Leys in general.
He said: "I have my roots in Blackbird Leys. I have lived here all my life. I like the community spirit and the way the estate pulls together at times.
"It's a very friendly estate. I walk out of my door in the morning and I always get waves and hellos."
Competition organiser and judge Kate Griffin said: "We were really pleased with the quality of entries. There are some really good-looking and nice guys on the estate.
"Jamie seems really nice and thoughtful."

fair play to kaleigh, you are proud of your family and rightly so. i have always heard this rumour that the bracketts are a rough family but i am yet to have seen evidence of this. alot of them do good things for the local community and they also are extremely friendly. i have been in the company of bracketts a few times and i have had some good laughs with them, they are not bad people.
i bet if you typed "brackett" into the oxford mail archive you would not see one bad report about them.

Dave - you're right - lots of report of boxer B's successes and that's it! Crikey it's all a bit judgemental isn't it. People can't help where they're brought up (or where their parents can afford to live). It's up to individuals to make the most out of their circumstances and Jamie has done this and would like to encourage others. Why is it necessary to knock him for wanting to get on in life?

How times change ,the administor's job used to be done by new recruits with their bare hands.
I imagine janitorial supplies are better stocked by the warrant officer today.

I am appalled by what I am reading on here. Do you not have anything better to do then slagging someone off for trying to make something of themselves, for their family name or for where they live? Do any of you who have said something bad about the Bracketts know them personaly or just know the name? Would you say this stuff to their faces? No? then why say it on here - Cowards!

Kayleigh, don't let them get your blood pressure up! Most of the people who write these comments do little else. Check out their names on other boards - actually don't waste your time, but it's really all they do day and night. You know more about your family than any of these people, don't dignify their comments by reading or responding.

So all you Smiths out there feel free to defend your family name.

Also its a case of give a dog a bad name..
It bloody sickens me that people who write negative crap on here dont have the **** to show their names and who they are and mostly never lived on or come from the leys only ever listened to the ole legend of the old leys.
Most of the trouble comming from the leys now has nothing to do with people who are native to it or even the country sad to say.
Just cos jamie comes from BBleys does theat mean he does not deserve a pat on the back for doing something constructive?. or because hes from the leys hes soposed to know his place and dont rise above this petty ****.
Why should he suffer for his family name and what was once done in 30-25 years before.
Like i said nice one jamie mate jelous people who cant bear the fact that you should dare to rise up out of the sump pit.

Well done Jaime and say hi to all your family from the Taylors of Balfour Road.( used to actually live next door to Joan) Bracketts had a bad reputation but most of it was bullshit urban myth, they were and still are a great family.

Jamie may be a great guy, but what is it about the people from Blackbird Leys that makes them not able to spell properly? Not one of them that has left a comment on this message board has got the correct spelling in their message....

I am sticking up for anon ! as a good friend of his called b non, called me today to say that anon did not have the brains of a chicken, and i replied oh ! yes he has. but on a serious note we cannot deny that as a very large family we have had troubled times in the past, but they are well behind us and that is the key word here the ( past ) i have just read my niece kayleigh bracketts comments on here and felt a lump in my throat out of sheer respect for her by saying what we all feel as a family . I myself have been teetotal for the last 18 years and i also do the occasional half marathon and enter charity fun runs like the town and gown 10k races and i am 57 this october plus vat, and my goal in life is to beat my brother paul in one of his 50 mile ulltra marathon races and give another brother desmond ( the oxford university boxing coach ) a lesson in sparring and i am not talking the spar shop on the leys either . Good on you jamie brackett you deserve that title bestowed on you because those who really now you are busting there belts with pride at what you are achieving.

Coo, this has caused quite a stir on here - love it! However, one concern - "eligible bachelors" are, by definition, unattached and available for marriage aren't they?
Men who are in a committed relationship are not generally considered either 'eligible' or 'bachelors' .. are they?
Where does this leave Ms Scotland?

"The romantic 30-year-old has just been named Mr Leys - and is officially the most eligible bachelor on his estate".
but she says......
"they jus use "eligible bachelor" 4 the title. it leaves me in a great position. hes taken and all mine love it."
Surely this is fraud???????.
You would not be allowed to enter the Miss World contest if in fact you were a man?.

This is the first time i looked at this site and i can't believe what i'm reading. Being a gifted young man from black bird leys, i feel the comments being made only makes my family stronger and you ever more resentful. Are people blind to the fact that all nasty comments espire from some unknowns who could never enter a comp on the basis they have nothing good to say. Or is it that they found the only way of attacking my family, here i ask, talk to me, 'unknowns' i'll give you the history and future of a family who through there troubles have become role models for youths, adults and you. 'MEDIA MOGULS' PLEASE BE NICE as this is your only limelight and i'm sure that buzzers been ringing since your first comment. OFF MY FAMILY STAGE 'GATE CRASHER'!!!!!!!! MR G BRACKETT 28 GOODLOOKING LOYAL FRIENDLY AND MOST OF REAL!!!!
