Patterson's losing patience

Oxford United boss Darren Patterson has lost patience with the two summer targets he had issued with a midweek deadline.00 Neither was prepared to commit themselves to Oxford United at the moment, because they are holding out, it's understood, for a Football League club.

Patterson said: "We have moved on. They are apparently still in the frame, but I needed a decision this week and they weren't able to give it, so I'm moving on to other players.

"If it happens that they are still available and I can't get these other players, we may go back to them."

He added: "They are just basically hanging on, but every manager I talk to says that's the case with so many players who are hanging out for League football and more dough."

The U's have got four triallists with them at present - Liam Kelly, Reuben Reid, Rob Davis and Rhys Meynell, and two or three more, including at least one goalkeeper, are expected to join them when the squad goes to HMS Collingwood at Portsmouth on Sunday.

Patterson said: "I'll be going backwards and forwards between Oxford and there because I've got meetings with players on Monday."

  • UNITED'S partnership with Oxford-based ts.com, who provide them with online ticketing - which is proving ever-more popular with U's fans - has been extended for another year.

This 'transfer' story has become a farce, i ask myself - does patto have the financial backing from the Board to bring in the best players possible, or is patto making the 'right noises' to appease his bosses? I'm thinking they want patto to string out and keep the interest up over transfers for as long as possible, why? Good question, perhaps there's NO money in the pot and they are desperately trying to bring in money from season ticket sales while knowing it's going to be another season of struggle and v poor football??

how many clubs have actually signed and sold players so far? hardly any one. it's the same old few that are buying players. look at stoke, not bought in anyone yet and they want to stay in the premiership. leeds haven't made one signing and haven't sold one player yet since the last game of the season. just be patient. still just over a month to go until the season starts!we don't even know what the kit looks like we are going to be playing in! are we going to start moaning about that aswell!

    but the the questions is

why are people not jumping at the bighgest club in the conference?

whay cant we be their number one choice - why are we not an attraction?

You lots talk silly, don't you realise that we in non-league and how many players want to go to non-league. most players only have one interest in theirs heart... money of course (e.g. hutch & Jen. Have faith in Patto and I'm sure we get better players than you lots realise!!!

Ermmm, comparing us -or any other BSP Club with teams such as Stoke and Leeds is silly, you might just as well use Real Madrid or Barcelona.. it's not a case of being impatient, we have been here far too many times over the seasons especially since dropping into non-league obscurity. I have the feeling a lot of the gossip - because that's all it is, eminating from the Club is designed to pacify the hoardes -without having any substance behind it. 'Patto' keeps moving the proverbial goal posts, he still appears not to know or who he will be targetting, he's sending out the right signals.. All of them coded!! Still, it appears the B'sh1t is working on some, so to that end he's done his job. Whether he's capable or has the resources to do the real job - getting Oxford Utd back into the Football League, we shall see.

It's a never ending story, how many times have we been told that we are close to signing a player only to be told that the player is holding out for a league club and more money.

It seems to me that Patterson is starting to get pretty desperate as far as player signings go. Going to the Navy base with a handful of players today, only to come back to Oxford tomorrow to talk to other possible signings. Don't sound very professional to me, more like Pattersons plans are blowing up in his face.

    ho ho ho

With comments like "Yes we are getting impatient with you Mr Patterson" and many others, I wonder how the parents of these people cope in the weeks prior to Christmas... and the weeks afterwards when these kids are still not satisfied.

When the coaching staff shape the existing squad into a winning team, Oxford will become an increasingly attractive prospect, so why fill the squad with "maybes" as some want?

It is also only still June! Why have people such limited lives that they worry about the players Oxford may or may not sign before August? And players can still be signed later...

After reading this, myself and at least 55 others aren't going to renew our season tickets. We were all planning to do this Tomorrow (Monday), so thanks for the tip-off. We're gutted and feel betrayed. I hope the club feel ashamed of themselves. Also the club could have done the decent thing and informed the fans instead of leaving it to someone to announce at the bottom of the comments section of an unrelated local newspaper website news article.

    Very well said YeOx!

There has been at least 2 articles on this website in the past month with Darren saying we will have players in just give it till next week. Next week has never come.

Darren I was sick of the tosh you uttered after matches on many occasions and thought you may learn over the summer but you haven't. You now don't have the wage cap as an excuse for this season so what you gonna use now after every loss we have?

People say don't panic its only June lets face it alot of our players who have played together for a season or more look strangers when they step out onto the pitch so it is vitally important we give new players alot of time to gel.
Look what happend last season Jim put his holidays to Spain ahead of buying players last season and look at the overpaid dregs he ended up bringing in!

Look at teams like Rushden and Stevenage theyve got players in early and when they start back training they will start off as 1 unit and will probably not bring anymore in so they will gel better. Oxford on the other hand will have players in and out every week on trial that is not gonna help team bonding and gelling.
The whole point of us starting early I thought was because Darren will have that many new players in that he decided we would need more time to gel those players in.
Is it we have no money? Or that Darren cannot attract anyone? I would say its a mixture of both cos lets face it he is a nobody!
The headline to this story is "Patterson's losing his patience". Well Darren I'm losing my patience with you! Thanks Darren for another season in mid table.
