Top award for Oxford City
Oxford City chairman Brian Cox has spoken of his immense pride after the British Gas Business Southern League outfit were voted Football Foundation Community Club of the Year in the Non-League Paper's national game awards.
It completes an excellent year for City, who clinched promotion to the Premier Division after winning the Division 1 South & West play-off final against Uxbridge last month.
The accolade was presented at a special awards ceremony at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.
The national awards are run through the Football Foundation which is supported by the Premier League, Football Association, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and Sport England.
"It's absolutely fantastic for a club at our level to have won this award," said Cox, who has been awarded a Certificate of Honour by the Lord Mayor in recognition of his exceptional service to youth football.
"Aldershot won it last year, so to beat all these top professional non-league clubs, particularly when we are run on an almost voluntary basis, is a tremendous achievement.
"I said that winning promotion to the Premier Division was the icing on the cake, but we keep adding a bit more to it. It's unbelievable. It makes me a very proud man, who has all these fantastic people at the club.
"We are really moving forward as a club. It's been a great day."
The club's managing director Colin Taylor added: "We are delighted. The timing of the award could not have been better, because we are going to put in a bid for an all-weather facility at Court Place Farm.
"Everyone has been working very hard behind the scenes."

An extraordinary achievement for the club, and one which caps a fantastic season. Brian Cox and Colin Taylor, both quoted in the article, both deserve the highest praise, as does the club's Community Development Officer Darren Davies.
The award is also recognition for all of the players, coaches, parents, helpers and supporters of the men's and women's teams, the Youth, the Colts, the girls, the Veterans, the Casuals, the Teenies...congratula
tions to them all.
