Motorist crackdown by police
Law-breaking motorists were targeted by police in a road safety day carried out across south Oxfordshire.
Police and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) carried out safety checks in Didcot, Wallingford, Benson and Berinsfield and stopped 40 vehicles on Friday.
Pc Chris Ball, neighbourhood specialist officer for Didcot South, said: "In Benson three vehicles were issued with prohibition notices.
"One young driver who had previously been warned for driving in an anti social manner lost his licence due to the number of times he had previously been stopped and the unroadworthy state of his vehicle (bald tyre).
"In Wallingford, Market Place one vehicle received a prohibition notice for having a bald tyre and at Halford's car park one vehicle received a prohibition notice for having a bald tyre and on The Broadway four vehicles were issued with prohibition notices.
"The operation was run in conjunction with VOSA and the Roads Policing department. It was a great success taking a number of illegal vehicles off the road, including cars which had their windows tinted and loud exhausts.
"By doing an operation like this we are working to respond to the needs of the residents to make the area a better place to be."

good. now these people will see that it is cheaper to go and buy new tyres than risking it. as for noisy exhausts etc these things surely should be mot fails anyway. the young man who lost his licence is hopefully going to learn that moronic driving will not be tolerated. a few months of walking or using buses will do him good. when he gets his licence back, he may just settle down and be a good example to his mates

Is it possible for the hacks at the Oxford Mail to write a story about Police activity [bold]WITHOUT[/bold] using the term 'crackdown'?
The Police are simply going about their usual duties- are refuse collectors 'cracking down' on rubbish? are supermarket shelf stackers having a 'crackdown' on empty shelf space? Do the Doctors of Oxfordshire regularly 'crackdown' on illness?
