U's wait on Green
Matt Green
Matt Green

Oxford United are locked in talks with Matt Green but are hopeful a deal can be reached with the talented 22-year-old striker.

It is understood that the U's have been in discussions with Green, and his agent, for a number of days.

And boss Darren Patterson will be especially keen to sign the forward, who did so well while on loan to Oxford from FA Cup finalists Cardiff City last season, after just missing out on a number of other targets.

Prolific scorer Daryl Clare opted to move from Burton Albion to Rushden & Diamonds instead of Oxford last week because of family reasons, and wingers Chris Hackett and Jamie Cook, who both used to play for United but are now at Millwall and Crawley Town respectively, chose to stay where they were.

Hackett and Cook are both players that Patterson would have liked to have signed, but he was philosophical about missing out.

"We spoke to Chris and put a verbal offer to him, but he had the chance of staying with Millwall and playing two leagues higher, so it was a no-brainer for him.

"But he's someone I've got a lot of respect for. I would have been delighted to have signed him, but it was always going to be a long shot."

Hackett has signed a six-month deal at The Den, following injury problems last season.

Patterson said: "We'll be monitoring him very, very closely."

United's manager was due to meet Cook for talks, but at the last minute he got a text from the player saying he had signed a new deal at Crawley.

Let's hope Greeny signes.

Every player he has approached has turned the other way, it would therefore be a miracle if Green signs for oxford, when he must have league offers surely.

Yeah - thats a great attitude for us to have! We need to attract good players to OUFC to get back to the league, and that will take good scouting as league players that are prepared to drop down to BSP are probably not gonna have what it takes.

Why do we keep bring back former players? They only ever to seem to let us down.
Mr Patterson has done a good job in chaning the ethos at the club (i think anyway) and players returning shows the wrong message for my money.

I`d like to see Lionel Messi with Phil Trainer up front

what a partnership

and maybe Giggs with Yemi - its not out of he question - Jim Smith just has to ask Fergie

WE ARE THE RIGHT SIDE LONDON ROAD!

Cook sounded a reasonable target considering he scored 20 goals this season, and from midfield! It should not matter if they have previously played for Oxford or not, as long as the hunger and desire is there to succeed.

You lot have no concept of football, why would Green come to a club that is frankly finished as a force due to merry and patterson.
I have my opinions and patterson should go and go now.

Again these posts are nothing to do with me, as you can see his previous post under my name was removed as will this one. The person continuing this pathetic tirade is LONG JOHN SILVER, who posts both here and on the main board. He himself is afraid to reveal his own name, so if anyone knows him, you can see what kind of mind set he has, cowardly and pathetic.

And the real Oxford1965 is a conversion to the Patterson following; the one above is Pete Bradley (though whether that is his real name we'll never know - or care for that matter).

This "person" has been posting lies and inuendo about Patterson and the club for the last few months. Now that he's been rumbled as an A420 inbred, it looks like he is trying his hand at multi-posting under the guise of real Oxford fans to try and keep the pro/anti factions squabbling with each other.

Champions next season; we'd better be...

Well I'm bored of idiots like you accepting mediocrity! Oxford fans have a right to moan at our league status and the very poor manner in which this club is being managed so I think its out of order to have a go. Sod off to Swindon!

There is nothing wrong with stating your view (good or bad), but it is how you do it! Make a valid point with your discrepincy/ even make a valid and educated solution that has not already been tried and tested, and do not jump on the band wagon like so many people do on here. And then to say sod off to Swindon... timeless classic! I cant wait to hear your next insult to this mail or another.
