Pools still struggling for staff

Blackbird Leys Swimming Pool may be shut on Saturday because of staffing problems, Oxford City Council has warned.

Long-standing staff shortages meant the council was forced to cancel several sessions at the pool and the pool at Peers Sports Centre last weekend to send employees to Hinksey Pool - which still did not have enough staff to deal with the huge demand.

A council spokesman admitted Blackbird Leys Pool could close, but said two new lifeguards had started work since last weekend.

She added: "We will endeavour to have all sites (swimming pools) open this weekend. We are using our standard cover arrangements to try to prevent a closure."

She said Hinksey Pool would be staffed by two lifeguards this weekend, which she said was sufficient for normal numbers of swimmers at the pool.

Is this the same George Hamilton who appeared in the1980 epic film 'Zorro The Gay Blade'. How do you maintain that youthful tan, having been born in 1939? Are you fulfilled by working for a crap provincial news(!)paper? Are you a different George Hamilton?

So we have a facilty that costs money to upkeep
We have a huge demand for it
But the Council can't get any money for it cos they can't staff it
Makes a p*** up in a brewery look difficult doesn't it.
And this lot are handling millions of our money every year, making assessments on private business and surprise surprise increasing local taxation every year without fail.
Then they have the front to ask you to vote for them.
Expect increases in parking charges and council tax to pay for this fiasco.

I can only assume they are causing a scene as they are in the process of manufacturing consent for the importation and employment of foreign cut price labour.

if the council cut down on the amount of sick pay they pay, over paid staff, they could have money to employ the staff to man these pools. They are just like the NHS,BAD MANAGEMENT.
you dont get this in the private sector..

I second what REALLY said! Its got nothing to do with money! They have been advertising for sometime but can not fill the position so CASHCOW why don't you get off your backside and apply. The pool will have a lifeguard and you will have a better understanding of how the real world works!
