Anaclet quits United
|
| Eddie Anaclet |
Eddie Anaclet is leaving Oxford United - and has signed a two-year deal with Stevenage Borough.
The right-sided player was offered a new contract by the U's after an impressive second half of the season, but he told the club last night that he would not be signing.
Signed by Jim Smith in the summer of 2006, Anaclet, who has played as right back and a right winger, has been a regular for the past two seasons, making 73 appearances after joining from Southampton.
Although the early part of last season was marred by injury, an impressive end to the campaign saw him offered a new deal.
U's manager Darren Patterson admitted he was disappointed that Anaclet will not be staying.
But he praised the player for making an early decision on his future.
"Eddie is a good lad and we'd have liked him to stay," Patterson said.
"We made him an offer, but he wants to try his luck somewhere else.
"He feels he needs a new challenge, so it looks as though he'll be moving on.
"We wish him well and hope it works out for him.
"At the same time we are talking to new players about joining us and having a definite decision so early from Eddie helps us firm up those plans."
Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace said: "It's no secret that (manager) Graham (Westley) has long been an admirer of Eddie and this is the sort of deal you miss if your management is not in place early.
"The boy has loved his time at Oxford, but felt it was time for a change and a fresh start.
"As he's under 24 and been offered re-engagement by Oxford, with whom we have an excellent relationship, I'll be contacting their chairman soon to agree a fee for the release of his registration."

Utter crap, if he was so happy why did he leave. He obviously sees Stevenage as a bigger prospect, he was also fed up with patterson. How many others will leave? and what calibre of player will patterson be able to entice to the club.
It's called the patterson effect, watch and see!

The anti-Patto's out in force again! What muppets you are!!! Anaclet is scum and should be treated as such next season. Moving to Stevenage is a backwards step from a player seriously lacking in ambition.

Of course there is point pretending that it is good losing one of our better quality young players. We have to go out and get somebody better! I wouldn’t be bothered if some of the current squad did leave. Admittedly Eddy would not be one. I would have liked to have kept him.
I still thing Oxford will be one of the first choices for players dropping out of the football league.

He was offered less to stay with us on a one year contract, what would you do. Face it, whatever patterson offers players to come here they will be offered better elsewhere, so we will be left with the dregs, due to the shambles that was last season, due to patterson and smith.

I agree with your point Steve about the better contract. The reality is that most rational minded player will go to where they get the most money assuming this is why he left. If you’re a young player starting out then your going to go to where you get the best opportunity however I don’t think they stand a better chance than us for promotion. It is frustrating to lose his to one of our main rivals but the fact they finished above us means nothing. The season is forgotten. Last season when we successfully qualified for the playoffs mean nothing this season. When the bookies announce the odds for the coming season I would not mind betting we will both be amongst the favourites.

[bold]Unable to secure the servives of Jamie Cook.
Unable to persuade Eddie to stay at his local club instead of the Westley revolution at SBFC.
Already missed out on other transfer targets.[/bold]
Patterson made reference in Dec/Jan about ho difficult he had in getting players to join and now is having the same problem all over again. Common denominator?
The club is in deep trouble and some of me fellow supporters just think we are being UNLUCKY - Patterson and Merry.

Well its early days yet! There is no pint rushing and singing players if better people become available in the future. Jamie cook is hardly a player that we have missed out on! My opinion is that he is typical of the type of player we have gone for in the past. Someone who showed lot of promise a long time ago and then failed.
Another example would be Marvin Robinson
Showed a lot of promise as a youth teams player years ago. People always remember him as the talented youngster who played really well. We sign him and become very confused and disappointed when he plays cr*p. It is very predictable as to why things did not work out for him. It’s the same reason why all the other clubs released him.
I personal feel is better to forget about the past and sign young fresh up and coming talent.

Fortunately for me I, unlike most conference standard footballers, have a secure and reasonably well paid job and do not have to worry about gaining a new contract every year or two. I know that if I was in a similar situation to Anaclet and was offered a two year deal I would find that sort of job security difficult to turn down. At this moment in time OUFC probably have the same chance of reaching the playoffs next season as Stevenage, so this could be seen as a sideways move for him.
The time to start slating Patto will be after his new players have failed to perform on the pitch. Seeing as he hasn't signed any yet we'll just have to wait and see.

Is it a worry to anyone else or just me the lack of transfer activity. I know it is early days but Graham Westley(Who in my opinion should of replaced Jim last year) has been at Stevenage for 10 days he has signed 4 players to date including Eddie. Darren has signed none. Is this last season all over again Jim took his time and we ended up with crap I think Darren is doing the same. If he signs poor players he will only blame it on the wage cap anyway like he seems to do after every inept performance.
Please Darren and Nick lets get looking and signing new players rather than trying to get stupid stupid friendlies with African countries.
The only good thing if we had gone to Guinea we could left the idiot Nick Merry there then we could get in a half decent chairman.

Like Who Simon? I think he has business interests over there. I thought the friendly game in Africa was good idea. Anything that raises the profile of the clubs and gains publicity for the club is a good idea. Admittedly winning promotion is the priority.

Lets not get silly. Its very early days so we shouldn't worry that we havn't signed loads of players. It was only a month or so ago that people were saying Anaclet should go anyway, so its not the biggest loss to the squad. Lets not shoot Patto down before the seasons even started. It still seems to me that some people are so keen to slag off Paterson that they lose all sense of judgement. Lets remember, its only Anaclet, who may be useful, but not a world beater.

He won't be that hard to replace! He isn't exactly the most natural winger and always looks like he lacks confidence. No real loss

I find it a woory that Eddie has left to join Stevenage. We no all players are only being offerd 1 year deals which i think is right when you see some of the crap we are left with ( Hutch Jennin etc)but if Eddie had any ambition and belief in himself why would he leave this club at his age.I would have liked him to stay but im sure a better player will now come in.Any way when we buy the Stadium this week this will all be forgoten :)

Its sad that Oxford produces so many unintelligent, inarticulate so called Oxford Utd supporters, who allow their personal prejudices to cloud their judgement, surely a supporter supports, no one is holding a loaded gun to your head making you an Oxford Utd supporter. Eddie Anaclet, whether you like him or not deserves better that to be called scum just because he wants to better himself, you expect loyalty from the players but show only disrespect yourselves. Shame on you,

Anaclet is one of the worst players I've ever seen - laughably bad. Smart move by Patto letting him go. In 10 years Patto will be seen for what he is, a footballing genius who restored a mighty club to it's rightfil place in the Champions League final.

Pre season you are supposed to be behind your team. If you class yourself as a supporter then support your team don't slag them off. If a swindon fan come on here and posted the stupid comments that some of you are posting you would be straight behind United backing them. Back United, next season is the season.
Mr P is a great manager, he knows what he wants and he does what he needs to do to get it!! How you can slate him on half a season is beyond me. Smith built the foundations for last season which ruined United's chance. Patto was left to pick up the pieces, to which i think he did a good job. Half way through the season we could have ended up facing relegation but we didn't thanks to Patto. He bought in some good players, gave the boys the respect and the discipline that they needed, lifted the spirits adnd we finished 9th. I don't think that is bad going when you look at the position we were in in the first half of the season. Patto will build a winning team for next season!
We're going up next season, you can quote me on that!!

Yes but Hargreaves is old and coming to the end of his career. He was only a fringe player for us and if being honest running out of steam hence the collapse at the end. It’s not always the cleverest thing in the world to be over reliant on a few high quality older players.

His brief sparkle at the end of last season, due to loan players and players such as Anaclet who are now walking, is one of the worst things to have happened to oxford in a long time. By now we could have had an experienced manager here, with contacts that would have stopped players walking, and encouraged players to the club.
As for next season, it will be more of the same, with a worse squad and the spin doctors keeping patterson in a job, by saying the kind of crap merry wants to hear from fans.

This decision has obviously played on his mind for some time. With the prospect of a longer contract and potentially more money in hand who can blame him?
However, I do hope it is not too long before Patto anounces some signings or good news himself to help quell any unrest amongst certain fractions of our support!

What idiots you people are. You think we can get an Arsene wenger at the club do you, or maybe Alex Ferguson-No manager is ever good for you lot, sod off and support another team, we need fans that can stand together for a fresh season, not argue just cos 1 player decides to leave. If he thinks Boro are the team for the future let him go,players always come and go, not the end of the world. Did Eddie win us the match for us last 5-6 games? No the did it as a team, and so will the new team thats Patto's putting together.
BUILD A BRIDGE AND GET OVER IT.

1) Eddie was/is a good player and will be missed by OUFC but it is his life and you have to respect that decision.
2) Darren Patterson is clearly the best man for the job for getting us promoted and any Oxford United fans who think otherwise are as delusional as Hillary Clinton's campaign team who still think she can become president of the United States!!!

shame to see him go
he did seem to have a confidence problem though
he would have a good game then the next was poor
but why after such a good end to the season did he decide to up and leave
was there a conflict of interests/personalit

i dont like to be little other teams in this league but how can eddie think that a move to stevenage would further his footballing future
quote
We will go nowhere with a nomark like patterson in charge.

Anaclet wasn't able to be persuaded to stay, for whatever reason (being either money or the manager).
As for this notion that it allows us to go out and get some decent players then I think we are all trying to kid ourselves. In fact, I am worried.
What will happen is we will all rejoice at whoever we sign, just because it is someone and it will make us feel better.
As for GREEN, he hasn't signed either and NOR is he likely too.
When that happens we can all have a real moan can't we, just maybe, starting to understand some of the frustrations instead of all the abuse which flies around.

Some people never learn. I'd imagine its the same people slagging Patto off now who had to admit they were wrong about him at the end of the season. Its really quite pathetic that people will use any reason they can find to try and justify why Patto isn't the right man for the job. Luckily our chairman is not as stupid as some of you guys, and has the common sense to stick with someone who has won 9 of their last 11 games. At least start slagging him off at the start of next season if he hasn't signed anyone rather than less than 2 weeks after the season has ended.
I'll look forward to when the anti-Patto's are having to admit they were wrong again at the start of next season, although I'd imagine it won't be the last time we here this nonsense.

I'm not worried about the lack of anouncements regarding new players. Decent players with a lot of offers on the table will take a while to make a decision.
So what if Stevenage are signing players, they could be paying way over the odds for their services.
The players that patto has bought in have done well and I think he is good at finding the right players for the club. We have a nucleus of a good team and need a few additions. there is no need to go at it like a bull in a china shop.
Stop worrying about football for a few weeks and let the management team get on with doing their job of finding players and convincing them OUFC is a good place to play at.
by the way LJS; unlike you some of us dont have a selective memory and can recall the improvements we made at the end of the season!
Long John Silver out!

As we all know the communication from the club is dubious at best, so like everyone else, who knows what, if anything, is going on behind the scenes or preparing financial foundations for the future! On that front I, like yourself, have no answers. I will repeat what i said on the forum a few days ago; nothing will change with this club until we have sound financial backing. Is Merry the man to deliver this? Ive no idea. But with regards to your comment, we cant just get rid of Merry, we must have a financially beneficial alternative.

The reason Anaclet was offered a 1 year deal is because Patto does not want to give out 2+ years incase these players turn out to be rubbish like Marvin Robinson. Therefore costing more money in compensation!!! And Merry or OUFC does not have the money of Roman Abramovich so every penny counts.
I do believe Patto will be the man to take us back into the league. And since he is OUFC's manager either get behind or run along to Swindump, Relegated Reading, or continue to support your premiership teams.
All the Patto haters I dislike you and dont want you to support MY team. But will you stop posting your rubbish on here, NO!!! Therefore there is no way due to a few mindless IDIOTS dont think Patoo is the right man that Patto will leave. I say mindless idiots as these people would complain if OUFC had Fergie as our manager!!!

On another note I have just read that Daryl Clare has signed for Rushden. That is one player we should of been chasing. Is it Darren doesn't rate Clare? Or is he just chasing after unrealistic signings like Matt Green who I think anyone with a few brain cells will know he will go to a better club than Oxford.

Simon in any other business you would be making moving or else you would go bust! Football is quite clearly different as most clubs seen to lose money!
Who is going to pay for it? It seen stupid to vent anger at the board unless there is a viable alternative. We stand a good chance next season!

I didn't mention anything about what good Merry has done!
Ok point taken. But surely its upto the fans to show their anger to the board and then he will be forced to find a buyer! In any other business he would of been given a vote of no confidence but in Oxford's case this will never happen as his friends are on the board.
This is true Simon but how easy is it to find a buyer that has £20, £30 or £50 million to invest? Its quite clear that WPL havent got that sort of investment capital so, as they love our club so much, I can only assume that they are looking for further partners and investers. I certainly hope they are anyway.

My understanding is that WPL do not lack funding. We had enough resources and finance in place to win promotion. The reality is that the money was wasted on overpaid players who underperformed. Bums!!!!

What fustrates me is that often this season the wage cap has been blamed for Darren not being able to bring in everyone he wanted to bring in. The wage cap is a set percentage of turnover is it not? So if that is correct as Oxford have the highest attendances and highest ticket prices in this division then surely the clubs turnover is the highest. So our wage cap should be considerably higher than other clubs. So is it that the current players are on such inflated wages that we are very close to the wage cap or is it not the wage cap and we just cannot afford to spend money on wages upto the wage cap?
If so can the club be honest and say they can simply not afford to get a player in rather than blaming it on the wage cap.

As I’m sure you will appreciate before venting your anger at the directors 13 million is a lot of money! Also the situation off the field should not affect performances on the field. It would have been different if the players had not been paid but the standard of player in the conference is very low and we should have done better!
In fairness to Darren he did bring a lot of players in and the season did end quite well with a long unbeaten run. The season was already over in terms of winning promotion before he took over so it’s a bit unfair to blame him for everything. Perhaps you could criticise the board for not acting sooner or indeed for signing a lot of players who performed badly.
There is no point being overly pessimistic before the season has even begun. Oxford will still be the first choice for a lot of players who are dropping down to the conference. The crowds we get and our facilities are still better than most over conference clubs. Wait and See my friend……….

Wait and See my friend……….
Yep 13 million is alot of money but when they first took over they did actually say they wanted to buy the stadium and would sort it out in the summer thats 2 years ago and still no positive news. Surely they knew how much Kassam wanted for the stadium when they took over the football club? If they didn't then they are even more incompetent than I already thought. A club cannot survive if it doesn't owns it own stadium it's a big outlay at first but there would be long term rewards to be gained. Are the board only looking short term?
The standard of player is low but this week we have seen 2 of the better players in the division move to Rushden. 2 very good strikers who we should of been of signing. I think Darren has done a half decent job but unlike alot of the fans tho I haven't forgot that the season has 46 games in a season not just 10 or 11 games. The team did end well but let's face it, it is unlikely 4 or 5 of the players in the team at the end of the season will be in the squad for the start of the new season. So lets not get carried away shall we.
I may come accross as pessimistic but I am just concerned that's all I want this club to be successful and it worries me when the club is not being ran as well as it should.
