Smith's big night

Oxford United director and former manager Jim Smith will be inducted into the Show Racism the Red Card Hall of Fame this evening.

The Bald Eagle is due to accept his award at a glittering ceremony hosted by Prime Minister Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street.

Smith joins legendary figures such as Thierry Henry, Ryan Giggs and Sir Bobby Robson in the Hall of Fame.

Ged Grebby, of Show Racism the Red Card, said: "Having Number 10 Downing Street for this year's Hall of Fame is a great coup for our organisation."

The Hall of Fame was set up in 2004 to acknowledge the positive work that footballers have been doing to try to eradicate racism from the national game and to educate young people about the negative effects that racism has on society.

Other honorary patrons of SRTRC include Paul Elliot, Lee Clark, Howard Gayle, Joe Cole, Ashley Cole, Viv Anderson, Jason De Vos, Calvin Zola, Frank Sinclair, Trevor Sinclair, Geremi, Luther Blissett, Frank Clark, Chris Freestone, Kevin Keegan, Peter Beardsley, Joe Shaw, Fabulous Flournoy, Jo Cartwright, Brian Hall, John Hendrie, Dave Bennett and Paul Davis.

Said Laura Fleck, the SRTRC's information and support worker, said: "Jim Smith has worked tirelessly to help our educational campaign over the years and we are extremely grateful for his continued support."
