Drug mule happy to get jail term

Three weeks after drug smuggler Delroy Thompson was caught at Gatwick Airport, a gunman went to his home in Oxford and threatened to kill him, Croydon Crown Court was told today.

He was now happy to be safely locked up in prison, said his lawyer.

Thompson, 48, of Herschel Crescent, admitted illegally importing nearly 37kg of cannabis worth about £78,000 and was jailed for three years.

Angus Bunyan, prosecuting, said Thompson and his wife, Evelyn Jones, arrived at Gatwick on October 29 on a flight from Jamaica.

He said: "A customs officer noticed suspicious odours coming from their luggage and he followed the progress of their suitcases from the carousel to the nothing-to- declare green channel, where they were stopped. A search was carried out and 48 packages of the drug were discovered.

"When interviewed, Thompson, said he had been approached by some men and was told to bring the cases to the UK, otherwise he would never leave Jamaica."

Edmund Vickers, defending, said there had been a police report of an armed man going to his flat looking for him, saying he intended to kill him.

"He has been very co-operative with Customs and has given a full account of what happened," he added.

"He much prefers to be in custody than at home where someone could punish him. He committed the offence under pressure. It was not done for money.

"It was done because he had been told the only way he would get back to the UK would be in a box."

Recorder Daphne Wickham said it was up to the Home Office to decide if Thompson, who holds a Jamaican passport but has indefinite leave to remain here, should be deported.

Yep, such a harmless drug isnt it?

All this so some pothead can find some TEMPORARY relief from his problems rather than confronting them head on and changing the circumstances which cause them.

Yeah yeah yeah yeah.

Yada yada yada.

Prohibition is the cause.

Only a minority suffer ill effects.

The media presents a distorted view.

Kinsey said exactly the same about paedophilia.

In fact the reality is that if a load of vacuous, self centred, irresponsible junkie cretins didn't insist in turning themselves into drooling, inarticulate vegetables by callously supporting a criminal network for the sake of some temporary escape, this story would not have been written.

Now go back to discussing comparative Rizla thicknesses.

I smoke, but i dont do it as a temporary escape, i do it because i enjoy it. I dont go out and have a few pints, i go out and have a few spliffs with mates. Unless you do it or tried it, you cannot judge it. You should judge Alcohol and fags, they are the killers. I have not heard of a family being torn apart through cannabis, or fights through cannabis, accidental deaths through cannabis. Nothing. I suppose you think smoking cannabis leads onto harder drugs too.

Yada yada yada.
People also do heroin and crack because they enjoy it.
I don't need to try it, as I am in no need of a chemical crutch.

"If you haven't tried it, don't knock it?"

Well I haven't tried incest but am sure its not the greatest thing in the world.

The druggies I have had contact with who do use it are boring moaners.

I see that the above story and the moral consequences of your self centredness have no effect on your outlook.

I think that's a serious addiction you have there junkie!

Actually I think it's pretty realistic.
My friends and I talk like this all the time.

As you have not heard of anything negative in relation to your habit

So Alan, do you never have a pint, or a glass of wine? If you do, why? Are these acceptable because the government say so? The facts about cannabis speak for themselves. Maybe you should take your head out your **** and do a bit more research. I have been smoking cannabis for nearly 2 years, I have not thought once about doing crack or heroin, i have never stole anything, never begged people for money to buy it. If alcohol was a class C drug you would probably have a nice winge about people who do that too.

And of course the facts depend on who you listen too.
The advice of clinical psychologists or some demented druggies who were probably riding to Venus on a magic swan the previous night.

I assume that your response means that you haven't checked out the website which gives the facts as millions of people see the question. Or are you saying that their anecdotal evidence is insufficient.

Because if anecdotal evidence isn't acceptable proof then you might as well legalise paedophilia as the (according the "facts" published by Alfred Kinsey) the ludicrous and scientifically irrational prohibition placed on that purely biological and largely harmless (an estimated 20% trauma rate) activity is propped up wholly by anecdotal evidence to the contrary.

I would love to hear you dismiss the testimonies of abuse victims as irrelevant. After all if the testimonies of the families and friends of self centred druggies about the havpc wreaked in their lives are irrelevant to "the facts" then how much more must the testimonies of abuse.
