Two houses damaged in boiler fire

11:35am Tuesday 8th January 2002

FAMILIES had to evacuate two homes in Gravesend when a boiler caught fire.

Firefighters were called out to two semi-detached homes in St Hilda's Way when a boiler caught fire in one house and the blaze spread next door at 6.30pm on December 30.

Both families managed to escape unhurt but the first floor and roof of one home was completely damaged while the house next door had smoke damage to the roof.

A spokesman for Thames-side Fire Station said: "The blaze damaged the first floor and roof of one home and smoke damage was caused to the house next door."
