Steady Eddie shining bright
EDDIE Anaclet's resurgence is being used as a shining example of how Oxford United's players can prove they still have a future at the club.
The right-sided midfielder has come through a torrid time, when his confidence seemed to be rock bottom, to become one of the players of the past month during United's impressive late March form.
And U's boss Darren Patterson says he's delighted for the 22-year-old.
"Eddie's a player I'm very fond of and I'm delighted with how he's played in the last three games," Patterson said.
"He unfortunately picked up a very bad injury in our game at Northwich Victoria, as did Matt Green, when he got a dislocated shoulder and Matt broke his collarbone.
"Eddie's had two bad injuries this season, and his form has been up and down.
"But he's shown real character in the last few games and we've made a point about it to the rest of the squad. We had a meeting regarding confidence and pointed to the way Eddie has come through and stood up to be counted.
"Some people talk about it as confidence, I call it character.
"Last season, he played at right wingback, which is a hard shift to do, and some have called him a right back. But this position on the right of midfield suits him well, I believe.
"He's shown he has a good work ethic and can play going forward. His decision-making is improving all the time."
This is a key time for Anaclet because he is out of contract in the summer. And because he's in that pressure situation, he doesn't want to speak to any of the media.
But at the moment he's letting his football do the talking, and is doing his prospects of getting a new deal no harm at all.
Patterson would not be drawn on the former Tamworth player's chances of a new contract, saying simply: "No-one will be made offers or otherwise until May."
The exception to that is Green, who is on loan from Cardiff City, because Oxford know they will face competition from other clubs for the signature of a striker who has already struck six goals for them in a dozen outings.
Patterson has already revealed that preliminary discussion have taken place with the 21-year-old.
"I'm putting him under no pressure. It will be a medical thing as well. We have to make sure that medically he is OK, because this club has been caught out with that in the past.
"But we know he enjoys playing here and know he enjoys working here with myself and Mickey (Lewis), so we believe we're in a strong position."

Well that's no way to get players committed to the cause is it?
Patto's had long enough, and refusing to start contract talks with players until the season is over just confirms this.
pATTO OUT NOW!!!!!

That doesnt necessarily mean that they won't have any contract talks.
I think Patto should definitely go though. I dont like the colour of his dogs hair. Proof indeed of poor management.

hahaha...very funny guys... hang on you're actually not joking are you?
so the same bunch of players you were complaining about not so long ago are all heroes now and should be signed up for next season immediately because we have won 3 on the spin - nice logic Pete Bradley, you're obviously a very wise person... in future i would just stick to your standard "Pato out" statement and not bother with commenting on anything else as it is normally utter rubbish...

If you want to act like blinkered Pattonistas thats your call but it will be the death of this club.
I ask you, who has taken Oxford United to its lowest ever depths?
And who makes vast errors of managerial judgement?

Pete, do you just 'copy' and 'paste' from previous posts because you only seem capable of making the same comment about every article...
the club was already on the slippery slope downwards when Pato took over. The simple truth is we didnt have the players to do the business.
if you dont like what Pato is doing, you dont have to go to the Kassam to watch the club, no one is forcing you to.

Some of you live in a dream world. We have had more managers than I have had hot dinners over the last 5 or 6 years. Where has it got us? If we get rid of Patto as you all seem so keen to do who do you think is going to want to come here? All you lot ever do is scream for someone to be OUT with no idea what you think will happen next. Muppets.

So well done Patto has won three games.
If only he'd won more earlier on we might not be sat 13th in the CONFERENCE.
This is Pattersons level unfortunately.
We need to get him out and replace him with a professional, experienced manager.
he is not good enough. Even David KEMP never took us this far down.

Pete, now I am confused - you say this is Patterson's level, well fine. Isn't this what you were all crying out for before ? not some failure from the football league but someone who knew and had experience of this league. Unfortunately you just don't know what you want. I must add, your comments ref Kemp are a bit pathetic, you just seem to be plucking irrelevant nonsenses out of the air to bolster your 'I don't care if he wins the next twenty games he's rubbish' attacks on Patterson. Still, whatecer turns you on !!

What a clown. Patterson has done everything he can to turn this club around. You cant expect him to step in and make every correct discision, you learn from your mistakes. I think he's done well and if we all had the chance to pick a side most of us would pick the same 11 players he's picked. So leave him to do his job. It's totally off topic anyways and Eddie's doing a fine job and hope it continues.

I really hope this Bradley guy's a wind-up, it's not Patterson that's dragged us down to this level it's years of mismanagement. Patto's taken on responsibility and yes its taken time but for goodness sake some of our fans sound like Newcastle fans. Patto's only had 6 months, he can't be judged til end of next season.

Clearly not. Patterson has inherited a bunch of useless players who didn't give a f*ck about the club and he's done well releasing them or loaning them to other clubs.
Give the man the time to assemble a squad that he'll feel happy about and which could develop to a team like our Youth Team... a successful team.
It's getting better and better... just wait and see. First we need patience and stability to build a team, then it's time to yield success!

To be honest I'm a bit undecided on Patterson just because he's won 3 games doesn't make him a brilliant manager but when he took over he inherited Jim's team and did as poor with that team as Jim did. Now he has brought in his own players performances are improving and most importantly results. So he must be doing something right. He has made mistakes yes but what manager doesn't even the likes of Wenger, Ferguson etc make mistakes! The thing is tho the players he has brought in on the whole seem to be half decent and I would probably be for signing all of them in the summer maybe not McCallister tho as he reminds me a bit of Duffy. So just on players he signed Darren has done a good job. So to me it makes me think he can spot a player so give him a chance in the summer and Mr Merry back him please you backed Jim so back Darren.
I also worry if we did get rid of Darren which is very unlikey I would think who else would we get as a replacement? The grass is not always greener is it?
Just remember last season Aldershot finished in a similar position to the position were in and look at them now! Hopefully we could do the same.

Yes we want someone who has experience of this league. I mean as a decent manager (IE Clough, Westley etc) not as someone who spent 18 months as assistant manager to a lush. You may as well get the kit man in, he's had about as much managerial experience.
I'm making the point that a medeocre position in the Conference is Patersons level because Patterson is medeocre.
Patto's appointment was unnecessarily risky and we are now reaping the "rewards" of Meery wanting to save a few quid.
And since you mantioned it, Patterson IS WORSE THEN KEMP. Say what you like, Kemp never took us this far down.
Take off the blinker's and smell the coffee you ostriches.

Pete; have you ever played football? maybe you played for a pub team once but i imagine that is about it.
you make a point about Clough. well last season would you have said he was a top manager, probably not. Burton have been moving forward but that's because he had time at Burton. Something you do not want to give Patto. Very very few managers come in and have an instant impact unless they have a team that is massively under performing - which Oxford weren't, we just had a lot of poor players OR have a lot of money to get new players in. With a limited budget he has done what he could. there have been mistakes but this is his first management job and you have to expect that.
You have made your statement, you have made a very shaky reference to Kemp and i dont think many fans agree with you.
Give him time and if you dont want to do that, then why not go and watch another team. I sure as hell hope i dont end up sitting anywhere near you because your pessimism is unbelievable.

Give him time and if you dont want to do that, then why not go and watch another team. I sure as hell hope i dont end up sitting anywhere near you because your pessimism is unbelievable.

Bradley, bleets like a dead sheep about Patterson! Does he only have one hymn sheet?
If we can only get more managers in then they can make up the full eleven to put on the pitch! Perhaps they would do a better job than the team? No, of course not! Consistency and commitment is much needed right now. Bah, Bah!

Oh dear Pete! Your comments are pretty lame. What makes you think Clough would come and manage us after hes been at Burton for as long as he has? You can't just go out there and get any manager you want. You mention having the kit man as manager. I doubt hes ever played professional football or represented his country!
The Kemp comment has to be your most far fetched of the lot. The only reason he didn't take us this far down is because we were in a higher league at the time. Its like saying Brian Talbot is a better manager than Patterson because he managed us in League 2 and not the BS Premier.
I think you need to come up with some new material. This stuff your coming out with is absolute nonsense.

Pete Bradley.....well what can you say...a lot of things that you are not allowed to and shouldn“t online due to the possbility of kids reading them. people like him are the ones who bring oxford down, whos pessimism among the stands on a saturday bring a real uuwanted negativity to the air which sometimes transfers on to the pitch. 95% of the fans i imagine want to give patterson a chance because 6 months is no time at all to make a real difference, christmas 2008 is a reasonable time frame to look back and maybe pass judgement. Pete Bradley i imagine your life reflects your comments on this site you sorry sorry individual.......

And I wouldnt have you as manager either.
His hearts in his pay packet at the end of the week. Just like his Mates Hutchenson and Pettiffer.
Stop being such a knobber, yeah?

i'm sure Kemp would've taken us at least this far down if he'd been given longer!

The truth is this good spell is just a "BLIP". Give pATTO too much time and he'll finish this club off forever.

Pete you are one sad individual, all managers that come good, do so over time and not after inheriting a low skilled/motivated team. If you look at his record with HIS new signings you will see quite a difference! (Oh for the better that is incase you spin that around too).
I am wondering if you have a problem with PATTO because he is the only person you have caught with your wife. Wondered why there is a Q for the disabled toilets in the Oxford mail Stand!!!!!

Well, well, well.
Another slump to inferior opposition.
And Paterson? He blames the ref again.

Pete is a little angry right now and I have to admit I see why. We have dropped lower than ever in the league's and I for one can't see it getting any better with the FAN'S we have.
My point is..We are very lucky at OUFC we have good attendence to most games 4k plus however I have been to 1k crowds and herd more noise. Are home form is terible and with 3 sides to the ground this dosn't help the atmosphere but when we go 1 goal down I use to hear resurgent noise from our fan's "come on Oxford" etc all I hear these days are what a load of rubbish. WE WILL STAY IN THIS LEAGUE FOREVER UNLESS THE FANS GET BEHIND THE TEAM. I for one won't be going to as many games next season but only because I am sick of Oxford's so called fans!
