River levels in Oxford and Abingdon are now expected to peak in the early hours tomorrow.

The Environment Agency says the risk of homes and businesses being flooded in these areas and all along the River Thames from Eynsham to Little Wittenham remains high and that householders should take steps to protect their properties. A severe flood warning is also in force along the River Ock from Charney Bassett to Abingdon.

At least 60 roads across the county were closed due to flooding yesterday and many will remain blocked today.

More than 30 people were evacuated in Abingdon last night and taken to an emergency rest centre at Oxford United's Kassam Stadium. An old people's home was among the buildings evacuated.

Oxfordshire's firefighters have received more than 1,600 calls and made 120 rescues since Friday's torrential downpours. Crews in Abingdon have now been pulled out of the town, but will remain on stand-by at the town's Dalton Barracks to respond to incidents, with rescue boats available if people become trapped.

A recovery working group made up of councils, the emergency services and utility firms will hold a meeting later today to review the situation across the county.
