A teenager whose baby brother was killed by meningitis has launched a series of school assemblies to make other children aware of the symptoms.

Ryan Payneok, 14, hopes to take his assembly to every school in Bicester to tell as many pupils as possible about the dangers of meningitis. He believes raising awareness of the symptoms could save lives.

The Cooper School pupil said: "My goal at the end of it is to raise as much money as we can and for everyone in Bicester to know about meningitis, and to know how to deal with it if it happened to them."

Ryan, who lives in Lucerne Avenue, Bicester, said he first had the idea on the anniversary of his brother's birthday in March this year. Eighteen-month-old Ross died in 1999 less than 12 hours after falling ill.
