Take a car journey THROUGH TIME
Tocated in the beautiful Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water, the Cotswold Motoring Museum is a fascinating journe through the 20th century - and it is a great wa y to spend the day out of the classroom.
Although the main focus is on motoring, the museum is full of the everyday paraphernali a that made motoring so popular, including picni sets from the 1920s, alongside caravans, radio sets, gramophones and knitted swimsuits There is also a substantial toy and memorabili collection, perfect for the young and the young at heart One of the most popular features is Brum, the little yellow car from BBC kids TV fame. Bru is filmed in and around the museum, and visitors delight in visiting the sites of thei favourite episodes. Have a photograph taken take a ride on Brum, make your own individua Brum brass-rubbing or take home a special gif to remember your visit Celebrating its 30th year, the museum has a substantial school programme, for early years to key stage one and two pupils.
Workshops include: Changes - Past and Present, Sounds and Safety, Seaside Holidays How Have Toys Changed? , Transport (genera transport history and timeline focus and motoring history - Early Garages DVD and meet the real Jack Lake), Britain Since the 1930s, Journeys - using signs and symbols and new workshop for key stage two Exploring a Locality (Bourton-on-the-Water) using maps photographs and GPS systems The workshops are a great introduction to a subject or for delving further into history o geography topics. The sessions get children involved in a subject using objects. They ma y be noisy but they really help children to learn in a fun environment Activities may include the following :
object handling and labelling exploring using GPS music to introduce the past timeline work brass rubbing question and answer time role play sound making meeting Jack Lake dressing up vintage (Charabanc) car rides All workshops can be adapted for various groups with different needs or learning difficulties. They are designed to be flexible and can focus on any area you are studying in school.
All the above topics can be run by museu staff at your school by arrangement. There ar e boxes of objects for you to take away and explore in the classroom to ensure everyone gets the most out of their visit
