KEEPER FOR THE DAY ?
The last few years have seen the improvement of many areas at Birdland the Cotswolds premier avian attraction and there are plans for more majo improvements over the next two years.
The new gift shop is finished and new toilets and café facilities are in the pipeline. There will be another play area and many new aviaries some of which are under construction now Next to the river, two acres of land will b fenced off to create a nature trail and pond dipping area .
With the new aviaries, improvements ar plannd for the graphic information displays and general educational opportunities, and arrangements have been made for birds to b loaned from other collections for breading purposes Since its introduction, there has been grea t response to the Feed a Penguin programme and the Keeper for a Day experience will, it i s hoped, expand.
Birdland is home to the only group of king penguins in England, Wales and Ireland.
There will also be Bird of Prey Encounters Reptile Awareness Days, and Meet the Keepe sessions, with more presentations from the penguins, pelicans and flamingos at set times.
To coincide with the launch of the ne website, Birdland has produced its first ne guide book in 15 years .
The centre is open all year except Christma s Day, from 10am to 6pm from April until October, and 10am to 4pm, November through to March. Last admission is one hour befor e closing .
A public car park is adjacent, with a large car park a short distance away in Bourton village centre. Dogs are allowed, but must b kept on a lead at all times. There is access and toilets for the disabled, and the Penguin Café offers a range of food and drinks in comfortable surroundings.
Once you have purchased your day ticket you can come and go as you like.
