something old, something new - a fundraising success

A fundraiser for Pegasus Theatre's major redevelopment programme Building The Future, held last month, brought in £2960 through ticket sales. Something Old Something New featured artists well known to regular Pegasus audiences. Twenty or so acts performed over two nights on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th April, presenting favourite works from their repertoires, sightings of works in progress, premieres of new pieces and previews of performances due to be shown in full later in the year. Raffles and further donations brought the total towards the fundraising campaign to £3343.

Portrait of a Nation is a dramatic conclusion to the year in which young people from Oxford and other Capitals of Culture will be taking part in a short performance about their city.

	Pegasus Theatre has been a major support to young and developing performers and theatre practitioners since it opened in 1975. The theatre then, as now, offered a supportive environment where experiment, risk and cross collaboration were positively encouraged. This thriving setting has launched the careers of some of the UKs celebrated artists and companies including Théâtre de Complicité, The Right Size and Peepolykus.

	Grand Finale To The Abolition Celebrations

	Pegasus Theatre marks the end of the year commemorating 200 years since the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade with a flourish. Journeys To Freedom, a cycle of nine plays celebrating black history and culture will take place over a week opening on Tuesday 25th, the anniversary of the Parliamentary Act abolishing slave trading in the British Empire, to Saturday 29th March. Each play will be performed by a different cast, taken from Oxford Youth Theatre (OYT) members aged from 6 to 19 years and the Pegasus based Platypus Theatre adult drama group.

	Pegasus Gets In The Swing

	Last night (Wednesday 5th March) was the opening of a new show co-produced by Oxfordshire Touring Theatre Company and Pegasus Theatre. Ain't Misbehavin' is an all music show featuring the songs of the legendary Fats Waller.

	We are now well into the New Year and I'm not one to make resolutions but I'm really looking forward to the coming year. However the prospect comes with a mixture of pleasure and sadness when thinking of friends and colleagues who have been affected by the Arts Council funding cuts. As you will know from my previous musings here, arts organisations live a precarious existence due to out reliance on public subsidy.
