This is a rare photograph of fifth- and sixth-form pupils at Chipping Norton School in 1946.

Marjorie Coveney was prompted to send it in after seeing school photographs from the 1960s and 1970s (Memory Lane, April 7).

She writes: "I do not think any school photographs were taken during the war, so this was our first as a group.

"The pupils who did not live in Chipping Norton travelled by school bus from the Stonesfield and Charlbury areas.

"Others came on service buses from the Woodstock area and from Kingham and Churchill.

"The rest cycled in all weathers and must have had some hard riding, bearing in mind the elevated position of Chipping Norton School.

"Few parents had cars and those who did would not have used precious petrol in wartime for school journeys."

Mrs Coveney, of Oxford Road, Farmoor, has managed to name all the pupils and staff - only one first name is missing.
