The Sunday School at Summertown, Oxford, was clearly a popular one.

Thirty-five children, aged from three to 11, are in this picture taken in 1943.

It was brought to Newspaper House by reader Margaret Chaundy.

She was the 18-year-old teacher at the time, and is in the centre at the back.

With the help of the school register, which she still has, she has managed to name every one of the children.

The Sunday School, which was attached to the parish church of St Michael and All Angels, was held in Summertown Infants School in Albert Road (now Rogers Street) on Sunday afternoons.

Mrs Chaundy, who taught at the school from 1941-46, writes: "The children were all well behaved and continued attending until they went to secondary school.

"At Christmas, a nativity play was staged, with every child taking part.

"The vicar of Summertown then was Canon Evan G Burrough, with the Rev Harry Gibson as curate.

"How I would love to know where these children are now."

Over to you. If you were one of the children, or know their whereabouts, please write in with your Sunday School memories.
