County's jobless total rises
The number of people claiming unemployment benefit in Oxfordshire rose again last month.
Latest Government figures show 3,546 people claimed benefit in January, a climb of 116 on the previous month.
Figures for council areas across the county show 1,389 claimants in Oxford; 831 in Cherwell; 540 in south Oxfordshire; 416 in the Vale of White Horse and 370 in west Oxfordshire.
But in the last year the total claimant count in the county has dropped by 795.
Nationally, Jobseeker's Allowance claimants fell by 10,800 in January to 794,600, the lowest total since the summer of 1975. It was the 16th consecutive monthly reduction.
Employment increased by 175,000 in the three months to December to 29.4 million, the highest figure since comparable records began in 1971.
